Josh Matthews: Apprenticeship’s Overall Achievement Award

At Focus Micro Systems, we pride ourselves on our apprenticeship scheme. After many successful qualifications amongst our apprentices, we had the honour of attending our first award ceremony for our youngest member of staff: Josh Matthews.

Josh’s Story

Josh joined Focus in July 2019 as an IT apprentice at the age of 16. After completing the Level 3 IT and Telecoms Professionals apprenticeship, Josh has now been taken on as a full-time employee. In September 2021, Josh was asked to attend an award ceremony to be awarded with Apprentice of the Year.

All the team here at Focus are extremely proud of how far Josh has come in the last 2 years. He is now developing further to become an Infrastructure Technician which is a subject he is greatly passionate about.

“He embodies everything that is good about the further education sector, this college, and how we improve lives. Josh is an absolute credit to himself and thoroughly deserves this award.” – Mark French, Apprenticeship Manager at Abingdon & Witney College

“I am proud to have him as part of our team. Josh was only 16 when he came to Focus and it has been a pleasure to watch him develop over the past 2 years. He will put his mind to any task offered which in my book is an asset not only to Josh but to our company. And that’s all before COVID happened, not only did Josh have to contend with a world wide lockdown – he still had to adapt to remote working and complete his college course. He needed a little bit of steering at times and always kept putting one foot in front of the other when things got hard, which is testament to his determination to achieve. I hope to work with Josh for a long time to come. If only to continue to watch what he can achieve in the coming years.”
